Criticism of Trent Alexander-Arnold potentially switching to Real Madrid is “deluded”, says former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock.
Alexander-Arnold, who progressed through the Liverpool academy and has gone on to win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Club World Cup with the Reds, is out of contract in the summer.
Real Madrid are progressing in talks to sign him as a free agent and Alexander-Arnold’s preference is understood to be a move to Spain.
Alexander-Arnold has received criticism from some quarters because of those reports – but that is unfair, says Warnock.
“Can’t believe the negativity directed towards Trent Alexander-Arnold and his potential move away from LFC,” posted Warnock on X.
“I’ve seen comments like ‘he should be ashamed’ and he’s ‘not loyal to the club’ [and those comments] are deluded.
“He’s entitled to make his own choices and challenge himself in a different league and different country. He’s won everything with LFC, been an incredible servant to the club and should be given a great send off by the fans.”
